Composting date palm residues promotes circular agriculture in oases

چکیده

Abstract Dry leaves of date palms (DPs) are by-products cultivation that often mismanaged in oasis agroecosystems. Ideally, they should be upcycled a circular agriculture model before producing and exporting high-value products. Compost inputs enhance soil organic matter conserve soil. This study investigated composting four mixtures based on farming system requirements the availability resources. The DPs were used alone or combined with sheep manure rock phosphate. We experimented farm-scale windrow to improve understanding support decision-making. results showed temperature increased rapidly 70 °C at beginning manure. Organic content decreased by 40% all windrows during composting, which indicated mineralisation loss volatile solids. Composting DP without for 136 days two turnings conserved nitrogen compost. Mixing phosphate final total phosphorus compost 0.52% (dry basis). Our highlight is feasible alternative circularity agroecosystems, increasing fertiliser value, thus paving way sustainable production products from DP.

Genetic Stability of Micropropagated Plantlets in Date Palm

Randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers were used to analyze genetic stability of the somatic embryogenesis-derived regenerants (R1-6) and mother plant in Iranian date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) cultivar Khanizi. Total genomic DNA extracted from in vitro fresh leaves of regenerated plants and mother plant was amplified using 10-mer oligonucleotide Fermantas primers. Four primers of...

Two culture approaches used to determine the co-composting stages by assess of the total microflora changes during sewage sludge and date palm waste co-composting

Indigenous microflora community changes during six months of co-composting of activated sewage sludge and date palm waste was investigated using two different culture approaches. In order to evaluate the co-composting process evolution for mixture A and B, growth standard media (GSM) and Compost Time Extract Agar (CTEA) are used. Enumeration for indigenous flora abundance on GSM medium shows th...

Al-Ayedh: Rearing the Red Date Palm Weevil 353 EVALUATION OF DATE PALM CULTIVARS FOR REARING THE RED DATE PALM WEEVIL, RHYNCHOPHORUS FERRUGINEUS (COLEOPTERA: CURCULIONIDAE)

Development of red date palm weevil Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier) was evaluated on 4 popular cultivars of date palm, viz., ‘Khalas’, ‘Sukkary’, ‘Khasab’, and ‘Sillaj’ for 2 consecutive generations. The weevils reared on ‘Sukkary’ showed significantly better growth expressed in most parameters such as length, width and weight at larval, pupal and adult stages. Significantly greater numbers...

Palm Date Fibers: Analysis and Enzymatic Hydrolysis

Waste palm dates were subjected to analysis for composition and enzymatic hydrolysis of their flesh fibers. The fruit contained 32% glucose and 30% fructose, while the water-insoluble fibers of its flesh consisted of 49.9% lignin and 20.9% polysaccharides. Water-insoluble fibers were settled to 55% of its initial volume in 12 h. The presence of skin and flesh colloidal fibers results in high vi...
